Music is Life !

Dear Readers,

I was inspired to write this post last Saturday when I attended my daughter Myah's Christmas Dance Show. They performed to the music from the movie "The Greatest Showman!" Just awesome music and these young girls were amazing!

As I was watching my daughter and her classmates dance, I was struck how most people in the audience were standing, moving around and smiling! The endorphins and serotonin were working their way throughout the room. Afterwards there were jubilant conversations and my daughter Myah's face was lit up from the energy of dancing and the compliments coming her way.

It got me to thinking how important music is in our lives. How we create memories with it and how it makes us move our bodies. And most importantly, how it heals us.

I love all types of music and was (am) a singer with 27 years of voice training. Singing has always been a solace for me. Singing to my favorite albums has been constant in my life. From Mary Poppins to Pink!

When I was 36, my father passed. I used to sing in my apartment to old standards, because he liked to hear me sing.  So now I was singing to him in the heavens.

There are so many musicians and singers who not only inspired me with their music, but also with their lives. I grew up in the 70's and 80's and so many female performers came out in those decades. We had female bands and women lead singers who were dominating the charts.

Then came Madonna! She upped the game for female singers to achieve heights as big as (if not bigger than!) their male counterparts.  It was music that expressed views from a women's perspective. There is now a plethora of female artists out in the world filling stadiums telling our stories.  It is a powerful experience especially for young girls and women to hear themselves in these songs.

After this weekend, I started a new practice for myself. After I do my gratitude journal and pray, I put on music and dance to it for 15 to 20 minutes. It makes for a better way to start my day!

Love and Peace

Ginamarie
