Do You Like New Year's Resolutions?
Hola!!
Happy New Year! Welcome 2026....
If another person asks me what my resolutions are for this year I am going to go all rude New Yorker on them! Resolutions are a set up for increased anxiety, failure and loss of self worth. I say that from years of experience with making resolutions.
Of course mine were usually around losing weight! Never worked! With the media pushing for the new you in the New Year all the time! Especially women's magazines and the internet! This coming People features Oprah and her weight loss journey! This isn't news it's to hype women and men to buy gym memberships, new gym clothes, diet supplements and books. Now it's weight loss drugs!
I really dislike the fact how we have to have a new version of ourselves every year. Like there is something wrong with us all year long but once the New year comes along we get to make resolutions for the new you!
I don't need a new me. Actually I love me! Would I like to create new things in my life every year? Of course! I'm not saying self-improvement is wrong. By no means. Self-improvement and personal development are my thing. What I am saying is: Don't set yourself up for failure.
Wanting your life to show up differently means you have to create practices or habits to ensure that your life looks and feels like you want it to. Setting goals is awesome, but make them realistic and attainable. Give yourself time, love, and patience. Nothing feels better than meeting a goal or creating something new in your life, but please know that EVERY day can be New Years day. You don't have to wait to January 1st to create a life you love.
The past few years or so I've been creating an intention on the New Year. Last year my intention was to surrender to my higher power (God) with my wild heart instead of my weary hurt. Some of that comes from Brene Brown's book, "Braving the Wilderness" (A book I highly recommend). God had my wild heart let go and embrace at the same time. This gave me such deep gratitude for my journey, myself and all the love in my life.
So, this year's intention is "To surrender to God with a grateful heart instead of my fearful heart."
Love and Peace
